Alright, my faithful mamas! Let’s talk about the real spiritual discipline of our week: Sunday.
Sunday is for worship, rest, and refueling our spirits, but it’s also the day we practice good stewardship of our time, energy, and resources. When our lives look like a whirlwind of practices, school events, and high-school games—a true testament to the abundance of blessings in our families!—we need an anchor.
That anchor is The Sunday Setup.
This isn’t about striving for kitchen perfection or spending all day meticulously chopping. No! This is an act of preparation, setting the table (literally!) for a week of serving our families well, without being completely depleted by Wednesday. It’s about remembering the wisdom of the Proverbs 31 woman, who “looks well to the ways of her household” (Prov. 31:27), not through endless toil, but through thoughtful preparation.
Think of this prep time as setting Future-You up for grace. Because Future-You is tired, probably covered in dirt or maybe just weary from running the race, and definitely not in the mood to negotiate a culinary miracle.
The Four Pillars of Your Faith-Filled Prep
Rule #1: Batch Cook Your Provisions (Protein + Sustenance)
This is the cornerstone. You need cooked protein and a solid carb source ready to nourish your crew after they’ve poured out their energy.
- The Crockpot Chicken Hero: A true gift of modern technology. Toss 2-3 lbs of chicken breasts or thighs into the slow cooker with a cup of broth and simple seasonings. Cook and shred it all up.
- Chaos & Grace Hack: This shredded chicken is your weeknight lifeline! It allows you to swiftly create healthy meals—for Speedy Pasta, taco bowls, or quick chicken noodle soup—freeing up precious evening time for playing a board game or simply connecting with your teen about their day.
- Rotisserie Chicken Power-Up: Don’t let perfection be the enemy of good! If your Sunday is packed, pick up two rotisserie chickens. Stripping the meat takes ten minutes and is a wonderful example of using convenience to prioritize family time.
- Grain Train: Cook a huge batch of orzo or rice—a simple, filling, and affordable staple.
- Chaos & Grace Hack: Store it in a large container. It’s the base for those Assembly Bowls, quick fried rice, or a humble side to any meal, reminding us that simple provisions can be abundant blessings.

Rule #2: Wise Stewardship of Produce (Seasonal, Frozen, and Canned)
Using the gifts God provides wisely means we shop smart and aren’t afraid of the freezer aisle! We save money and time by making the most of what’s inexpensive and easy.
- Embrace the Season: Focus your fresh cooking and roasting on in-season produce. It’s cheaper, tastes better, and is a great way to be a good steward of your grocery budget. When corn is cheap, buy a bunch! When berries are on sale, stock up!
- Frozen is Your Friend: Don’t fear the bags of frozen produce! Frozen fruits and vegetables (like peas, corn, broccoli florets, and berries) are picked at peak ripeness and retain their nutrients.
- Chaos & Grace Hack: Frozen is perfect for blending into post-practice smoothies. They require zero chopping and can be added straight from the freezer to the blender.
- Canned for Convenience: Canned vegetables and beans (like black beans, diced tomatoes, and corn) are shelf-stable pantry anchors. They are affordable, already cooked, and ready in seconds.
- Chaos & Grace Hack: Canned black beans and corn are the heart of your Taco/Nacho Bowl—just drain, rinse, and toss! This ensures your family is getting fiber and nutrition without evening panic or expensive produce bills.

Rule #3: The Egg Bake MVP and Breakfast Power Prep
This one covers your “Breakfast-for-Dinner Power Hour” and guarantees a quick, nutrient-dense start to the morning.
- Muffin Tin Magic or Full Pan Glory: Whisk a dozen eggs with seasonings, then add pre-cooked sausage/ham and cheese. Pour into a baking dish or muffin tins. Bake until set. Reheat a slice or a few bites for a quick dinner or breakfast.
- Hard-Boiled Heroes: Make a dozen hard-boiled eggs every Sunday. This is pure, portable protein for lunches, car snacks, or a super-fast dinner side.
- Flash-Freeze Chaffles: If you make chaffles (we love the high protein keto ones), flash-freeze them on a sheet pan until solid, then toss them into a freezer bag. They reheat in the toaster, offering a zero-mess, high-protein breakfast solution.
- Teenage Pancake Factory: If you use a boxed or mix-from-scratch pancake mix, have your teenagers mix the dry ingredients (and wet if possible) on Sunday and store it in an airtight jar. Weekday morning chaos is reduced to pouring the mixture onto the griddle.

Rule #4: The Snack Attack Plan
Preparation prevents the hangry meltdowns (for kids and mamas!).
- Portion Control Power: Buy bulk bags of dry snacks. On Sunday, fill small reusable containers.
- Chaos & Grace Hack: Stash these in a designated “car snack bin.” This small, intentional act means you have healthy options ready to share, preventing those moments where poor choices are made out of exhaustion.
- Fruit Prep: Wash and slice apples, grapes, and berries. Store them in containers.

Your Sunday Setup Game Plan
- Pray and Plan: Look at your calendar, then choose 1-2 protein sources and your carb.
- Cook & Conquer (Delegating to the Teens!): Get the Crockpot going and the rice cooking. Hand off the chopping and the meal container assembly.
- Restock & Refresh: Make the egg bake, restock snack staples (for us that is typically granola balls and muffins), and clean out what you can.
- Tithe Your Time: Now that your kitchen is serving you, use the extra time for rest, devotion, or simply being present with your family.
This hour or two on Sunday is a small investment that yields big returns in peace, health, and quiet time during the week. May your preparations bless your household and bring more stillness to your evenings. Now go serve with joy!
