“She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness” – Proverbs 31:27
Can we just have a heart-to-heart about what we do every single day? It’s so much more than just keeping the house somewhat in order, isn’t it? What we’re really doing is pouring our hearts into creating a true haven for our families—a place filled with peace, so much love, and a strong foundation of faith.
Honestly, this whole “homemaking” thing, when you really think about it, is about nurturing an environment where our kids and partners can truly flourish. I’ve found it helpful to break it down into a few key areas, things that weave together to create that haven we’re all striving for. For me, it looks a little like this:
1. Creating a Peaceful Atmosphere
-Start the day with prayer and Bible reading
-Play uplifting and rejoicing music
-Speak words of kindness and encouragement
-Create cozy living spaces
-Minimize clutter
“Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge it’s rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures” – Proverbs 24:3-4
2. Nurturing Relationships
-Eat regular family meals
-Plan family activities and outings
-Have open and honest communication
-Show affection and appreciation
-Forgive and seek forgiveness
-Prioritize quality time with each family member
“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace” – Ephesians 4:2-3
3. Stewardship of Resources (Home and Finance)
-Keep the home clean and well-maintained
-Use resources wisely
-Create a system for organization
-Create a budget and stick to it
-Give generously to those in need and the church
-Plan for the future
-Avoid debt
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it” – Psalm 24:1
4. Creating a Welcoming Environment
-Keep common areas tidy
-Have extra blankets and pillows for guests
-Prepare simple meals to share
-Create a warm and inviting atmosphere
“Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling” – 1 Peter 4:9
Remember – Homemaking is a marathon, not a sprint. Don’t strive for perfections, but for faithfulness. Embrace the small moments, find joy in the everyday tasks, and remember that you are making a difference in the lives of those you love. Your efforts, offered with love and purpose, honor God and bless your family.
